Service overview
## What ev charger installation actually involves.

### What it is
A home EV chargepoint is a dedicated 32 A / 7 kW circuit run from your consumer unit to a wall-mounted charger — either tethered (built-in cable) or untethered (socket-only). It gives you a full overnight charge from empty on almost any modern EV.

### Who it's for
New EV or PHEV owners, homeowners planning ahead of a lease switch, landlords fitting driveways for tenants, and small businesses wanting one to three units for staff or fleet vehicles.

### When you need it
Ideally book the install before your car arrives. Lead times on the survey and DNO notification (where a supply upgrade is needed) can add a week or two. We can also retrofit units to replace failed or first-generation chargers.

### Why a professional matters
EV installs are notifiable, must comply with BS 7671 Section 722 and the Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021, and must be commissioned to the manufacturer's spec. A £150 saving on a non-approved installer can invalidate the warranty and the smart-charging grant.

What's at stake
## Left alone, small issues get expensive fast.
The reason to book proper work now — instead of putting it off — comes down to what happens when you don't.

Non-approved installs void the warranty

EASEE, Ohme, Zappi and Hypervolt all require a manufacturer-accredited installer to validate the warranty. Non-accredited installs leave you with the bill when something fails.

Undersized supplies trip constantly

A 7 kW charger pulls 32 A continuously. Fitted to a marginal supply or an unsuitable RCD, you'll nuisance-trip nightly — a fault we get called out to fix regularly.

Missed grants cost hundreds

The EV chargepoint grant for renters and flat owners, and the workplace charging scheme, both require an OZEV-approved installer. Not being on the list means the money simply isn't available to you.

Non-compliant Earthing = a serious risk

Section 722 requires PME earthing conditions to be assessed and an earth rod or O-PEN device fitted where required. Skipping this puts every metal panel on the car live in a fault.

Our process
## A clear system, start to finish.

- 01

Free video or on-site survey

We assess the consumer unit, the earthing arrangement, the cable route and the mounting position. For most jobs a video call is enough to give a fixed quote.

- 02

Fixed price with grant applied

Written quote within 24 hours, EV chargepoint grant (where eligible) already discounted, and DNO notification handled by us.

- 03

Install day

Dedicated 6 mm² or 10 mm² cable run to the charger location, Type A + DC leakage RCD protection or manufacturer-integrated equivalent, and O-PEN device where required.

- 04

Commissioning and app setup

Charger commissioned to manufacturer spec, connected to your home Wi-Fi, and paired with your phone app before we leave. First charge witnessed with you.

- 05

Certification and warranty registration

NICEIC Minor Works or Installation Certificate issued, Part P notified, and the manufacturer warranty registered in your name.

Why it matters
## The outcome you actually get.

- Smart, tariff-aware charging

Modern units integrate with Octopus, EDF and E.ON tariffs to charge at off-peak rates automatically.

- Full manufacturer warranty preserved

As EASEE-accredited installers we register the warranty in your name — commonly three years, extended to five on registration.

- Correct earthing for your property

PME assessment on every job, O-PEN device or dedicated earth rod fitted where required — no shortcuts.

- Grants applied automatically

OZEV chargepoint grant for renters and flat owners, and the workplace scheme for eligible businesses, applied at quote stage.

- Tidy, unobtrusive cable route

Cable clipped, ducted or run through the loft — never left drooping across the drive.

- One installer, one point of accountability

Any warranty claim, any commissioning question — you deal with us, not a call centre.

Detail matters
## The specifics of how we do ev charger installation.
EV charger installation looks simple from the outside — a box on the wall, a cable to the car. In practice it's the most heavily regulated new residential circuit added to homes this decade, and the details matter.

### Manufacturers we install
We're EASEE manufacturer-accredited and regularly install Ohme, Hypervolt, Zappi (Myenergi), Wallbox and Andersen units. Each has strengths — EASEE and Wallbox for modular tethered/untethered flexibility, Ohme for the best off-peak scheduling with Intelligent Octopus, Zappi where solar-diverter integration matters, Andersen where the aesthetics of the driveway are the priority. We'll recommend the right unit for how you actually charge, not the one with the biggest margin.

### Load management and DNO notification
Every install is notified to your DNO (SP Energy Networks or Electricity North West depending on postcode) under ENA Engineering Recommendation G100. Where your supply can't comfortably take another 32 A, we specify a unit with dynamic load balancing so the charger throttles when the house load is high — no supply upgrade required.

### Earthing, O-PEN and Section 722
Most Cheshire homes are on PME earthing. Regulation 722.411.4.1 requires either an earth rod at the vehicle location or an OZEV-approved O-PEN device that disconnects the charger if the PEN conductor is lost. We fit the correct solution on every install — never take the shortcut of connecting to the house earth without assessment.

### Landlord and multi-unit installs
For blocks, workplaces and small fleets we plan supply once and add units incrementally. Load-managed installations can share a single supply across multiple chargepoints, and we handle the ongoing OZEV workplace scheme claim on your behalf.

### Solar PV integration
If you have (or are planning) solar PV, we can install chargers that divert surplus generation to the car — Zappi in particular is engineered for this. Combined with an off-peak tariff, running costs drop to a fraction of petrol.

FAQs
## Straight answers.

How much is a home EV charger installed in Crewe? From £900 including a 7 kW smart charger, dedicated circuit, protection, PME earthing assessment, commissioning and certification. Grants applied where eligible.

Am I eligible for the OZEV grant? The current £350 EV chargepoint grant is for renters and flat owners. Homeowners in single-occupancy houses aren't currently eligible — but businesses may qualify under the Workplace Charging Scheme. We'll check for you at quote stage.

How long does the install take?A standard install takes three to five hours. Complex cable routes or where a consumer unit upgrade is needed can extend into a full day, all agreed in writing beforehand.

Do I need to upgrade my main supply?Usually no. Most Cheshire homes have a 60 A or 100 A supply that comfortably takes a 7 kW charger with dynamic load balancing. We assess this at survey.

Which charger do you recommend?Depends on how you use the car. Intelligent Octopus users often go EASEE or Ohme; solar PV owners lean towards Zappi; design-driven buyers pick Andersen. We recommend based on your setup, not brand loyalty.

Can you install a 22 kW charger?Only where you have a three-phase supply — very unusual in Cheshire residential. On single-phase, 7 kW is the maximum, which still delivers a full overnight charge on any current EV.

Do you offer emergency callout for a failed charger?Yes — for units we installed, priority response. For units installed by others, we can attend and diagnose but any warranty claim must go through the original manufacturer-accredited installer.

Is the install covered by a warranty? The manufacturer warranty (typically three to five years) plus our own workmanship guarantee on the installation.
