An EICR is only as good as the person doing it. The difference between a proper test and a rubber-stamped visual comes down to whether every circuit was actually dead-tested and whether the engineer was competent to interpret marginal results. ### What we actually test For every circuit: insulation resistance at 500 V DC between live conductors and earth, continuity of protective conductors, polarity, earth fault loop impedance (Zs), and prospective fault current at the origin. For every RCD: trip time at rated current and half current. Consumer unit thermally imaged where accessible. ### Understanding the grades C1 (danger present, immediate action required) — for example, exposed live conductors.
